Weekends

Weekends are a rarity for me, so this morning I'm spending time (after I post this, of course) drinking coffee, hopefully reading a little bit, going to see Big Hero 6 (ahh!) and making a delicious dinner consisting of ribs, potatoes, and caeser salad with homemade dressing.

Have a great weekend :)

P.S. These are the last of my Minnesota pictures so that means I'll have to face the colder air and snap some new ones. Stay tuned!

Fall is Coming to a Close

The only word I can use to describe Autumn coming to an end is "bittersweet". Not only is it my favorite season but it's also incredibly photogenic. The colors compliment my lens in a way that no other season can compare to. The oranges, the yellows, the greens, the golds... I can't help but breathe a sense of fresh air when taking it all in. I was glad to take my camera on this road trip so we can stop and breathe in the warm and comforting season of Fall.

Now that Winter is soon approaching, I know my motivation will decline to almost non-existent. How negative right? I don't mean to be that way but my true passion is nature photography and sadly, in Northwestern Ontario, the Winters are far too frigid to spend lengthy amounts of time outside and it's certainly not the most appealing of seasons to the eye (with the exception of a fresh snowfall).  However, with Winter, I hope to incorporate more portrait sessions like I did last season in order to not only keep up with my craft, but also to find motivation in my photography (and also to build up my portfolio).

My day job remains a technical position, so to speak, so I have to remind myself that while that job "pays the bills," I'm lucky to have found my true passion and my hobby - photography.

Sometimes, when I'm watching a TV show (something I do often), I always somehow get convinced that I should educate myself and find employment in whatever it is that the characters are doing (I know that sounds silly). I somehow forget that I've found my true calling in life and need to educate myself in the fascinating world of photography.

Something I'm thinking of doing is incorporating a little project on this blog of mine - taking the things I want to learn most about photography and making it into some sort of a series. For example - lighting. I really need to learn more about lighting. I find that's the topic I struggle most in.

More on that later! Have a great weekend :)

Flowers in Fall

No matter how much I learn about photography, I always seem to come back to these types of images as my favorites. I love the look of a close up flower with an interesting background.

That reminds me, I really want a macro lens. That's on my list for next big purchases! Considering that I always flock towards close-ups, I want to get even closer and explore the subject to an in-depth degree. So fascinating!

Have a great Thursday!

Lindsay & Kyle

portrait couple photography

I'm in love with this photo of my friends' Kyle & Lindsay. Am I allowed to say that about my own photo? Well, I just did and I have zero shame about it.

When I took this photo at the park, I remember looking at my screen and immediately recognizing that this was going to be my favorite picture of the day.

This image is actually re-edited. I've learned some new tips & tricks about Adobe Lightroom lately so I've been practicing for the past couple of hours. My plan is to go through some of my photos that I took a while ago and just re-edit some of them to see what the difference would be (ie: will they look better with the new techniques I've learned? Hopefully).

I have lots of photos coming up that I'm going to post and I can't wait to share them!

Until next time.
