Excitement/Thoughts

flower photography I thought I'd take some time to share some of the things that I'm excited about & have been going on in my life lately!

  • John & I are going to Las Vegas at the beginning of April & I could NOT be more excited!!! I have a major case of traveler's anxiety though and can barely think of anything else when I have a trip coming up which is sometimes a problem. I try to live life as positively as possible & when I'm not living in the moment and taking life day by day I find that gives me negative feelings. So I'm just trying to be patient & keep itinerary planning to a minimum. However, I did write a list of fun things to do & delish places to eat in Vegas.. but by no means do we HAVE to do any of them, it's just a plan.
  • Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is legitimately ruining my life. I find everytime I have spare time, I sit there & watch that show. I started from the beginning and I'm just so invested with the housewives that I find myself doing little else.. Yolo?
  • I just finished reading Divergent (in all of 3 days) and am utterly obsessed! I cannot wait for the movie to come out & see how they interpret it. I actually liked Divergent better than Hunger Games (same type of novel) and found myself devouring each and every page. I've just started the second one but it's taking me a bit longer because I've been reading non stop and read about 3 books in the month of February so my brain is getting tired.
  • I can't stop thinking about Disney World & Florida and how much I want to go back! I have this memory of waking up to the air conditioned condo just a bit chilled, making myself a coffee, and sitting outside on the patio in shorts & a tank top feeling completely warm & still. I don't know why, but that thought alone makes me want to re-visit my favorite place.
  • Travel, in general is taking up most of my mind space. We haven't even gone to Vegas yet and I'm already planning my next trip after that & after that & after that...
  • Summer. I need it in my life.. Winter is the most depressing season & I'm ready for it to be over. Thunder Bay pretty much skips over Spring the past few years so when Vegas does come next month, it'll be nice to get away from cold & into the warmth!
Well that's about it for today! I kind of liked doing this it gives me a chance to write out all that's on my mind.

Jill`s Sweet 16!

sweet 16 birthday party sweet 16 birthday party sweet 16 birthday party sweet 16 birthday party sweet 16 birthday party Happy 16th birthday to my little sister Jill! Her birthday was technically on Feb 21st so I`m a little late to the game with this blog post. I can`t believe she`s already 16.. it makes me feel old. But I`m super excited about all the exciting things that are still to come her way in life.. I know she`s on a great path. :) These photos are some of my favorites from her birthday party. My fave is the first one, especially. P.S. my apostrophe`s look weird in this post... lol

Newborn Photography: Baby Taylor

newborn photography baby girl newborn photography baby girl newborn photography baby girl newborn photography baby girl newborn photography baby girl This was such a precious photoshoot to me because it was my first ever newborn photoshoot that I hope is the start of many. There`s something refreshing about shooting a brand new baby - probably because there isn`t any awkward posing etc and it`s just hope the baby cooperates lol. I see those beautiful newborn photos where the baby is all dressed up and placed inside tiny objects etc. and while I think that`s adorable and all (and we did that a little here with the basket) I like how candid this photoshoot was and I think that`s the type of newborn photography I`d rather do. Is just spending a couple of hours with a new family and capturing their most precious moments on camera. Until next time! *all photos belong to Jessica Kutok Photography.

Food Photography: Shepard's Pie

food photography shepards pie food photography shepards pie food photography shepards pie food photography shepards pie food photography shepards pie Okay, I actually love Shepard's Pie. It's a little time consuming to make but it's delicious and I usually have everything I need on hand :) Mmm... Anyway, this blog has been suffering a lot lately and I feel really bad about it. I'm going to try to post more because I have a ton of photos just sitting on my computer waiting to be uploaded to this little corner of the internet. :) In the past couple of weeks, I've also done a new born shoot and a child shoot so I'm super excited about that! More to come :)

Food Photography

food photography muffins Sorry everyone! I know it's been forever since I last posted but I find winter so uninspiring for photography. I hate how dull & ugly it can be outside. However, I love photographing people playing outside in the snow so at least I've been doing that here & there this winter. It's keeping me sane! Anyway, considering I really don't like nature photography in the winter time, I've been practicing my skills in other ways.. like in food! I made these healthy (and not gonna lie, quite bland) muffins a couple weeks back and instead of eating them I ended up taking a bazillion photos of them. I loved the way this particular image turned out. I think the color contrast mixed with the interesting "stack" shape made it for an appealing photo. How have you been spending your winter?! Tonight, we're supposed to get 30cm of snow.. ugh. Is it summer yet? I'm longing for days spent by a lake with a cold drink in hand. Sigh.

Sometimes a Break is a Good Thing...

industrial photography thunder bay industrial photography thunder bay I'm so sorry for all the silence around here. I feel like I'm finally getting into a natural groove in my new position at work which will hopefully allow for more creativity in my personal life! I'm actually kind of glad I took a bit of a hiatus because it allowed me to do a lot of thinking when it comes to my photography. I found that when I first got my new camera for Christmas, all my views as a photographer changed. I felt as though I needed to delete all my previous photos from this blog because "they weren't good enough" among other things. Focusing on this particular thought though, as you may have noticed I've added all my photos back since I started this blog. The reason being, this was all a learning experience for me just like it might be to somebody else who perhaps reads this blog. I'm still just a beginner myself but at the same time have come a long, long way since I first picked up a decent camera. I've learned more about the technical aspects of photography, proper composition & exposure, what it means to advertise yourself etc. I want all of that to be documented on this little space that I call my own. This is my blog, my photography blog. The first online space I've actually kept up with which really means something to me.. and I don't want all of my posts since the beginning to be hidden, that's just so sad. At the end of the day, I want to remain true to myself & my photography and that means showing the good with the bad! Going forward, of course I'll attempt to post only my best but right now, photography is still just a hobby & I'm going to post MY favorite selections. As usual, I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can start going outside without shivering my behind off and take some beautiful nature shots. I have some photoshoots planned for the Spring which I'm absolutely ecstatic for! And of course, I can't wait to take my usual nature shots and get a little bit more creative with them. Until next time!

Winter Wonderland

Winter Portrait Photography Winter Portrait Photography Winter Portrait Photography Winter Portrait Photography Winter Portrait Photography Winter Portrait Photography Winter Portrait Photography Winter Portrait Photography What an amazing shoot this was! This shoot was everything I love about photography: A candid expression of love in a family. If that makes sense? I honestly felt like a shadow (in the best way possible) being able to catch precious moments of a couple and their dog in the most candid way possible. Nothing about this shoot felt forced it was all just natural and beautiful. This type of expression is what makes me yearn to take more family photos in a setting like this. So, so beautiful. Thank you so much Beth, Kelly & Locke for allowing me to take your family photos. I hope you loved them as much as I did! :)
