Pink Skies

Isn't this sunset beautiful? I love how it turned the sky this beautiful ombre colour of pink, purple and baby blue. So pretty!

I have this fascination with lighthouses, lakes, oceans, boardwalks...anything that's associated with large bodies of water. I swear, I would have been a mermaid in a fictional life!

I just find water to be so calming and relaxing. Think about it, when you think of childhood memories, I bet at least one of those memories involve swimming in a pool, lake, ocean. When people plan trips, it usually involves heading somewhere where there's water! The salty (or fresh) air, sunglasses and swimsuits, boardwalk food and shops, beach blankets, LIGHTHOUSES, sand... ugh! I just love it all!

Speaking of water, I'm really lucky to live on the largest lake in the world (unless you include the Caspian Sea but um.. that's a sea!), Lake Superior. It's huge and has an area of 31,700 and runs for 350 miles! Massive!!!

Well that's all for lake trivia for today people! Hope you enjoyed the photos!

Sunset at a Port City

harbour sunset photography harbour sunset photography harbour sunset photography harbour sunset photography harbour sunset photography harbour sunset photography harbour sunset photography

John and I headed to Duluth last weekend just as a getaway that felt a little needed. Surprisingly (for me), we didn't do any shopping whatsoever and instead, just took a walk around the boardwalk, spent a lot of time swimming in the pool and of course, eating tons of good food.

We didn't plan to take a walk around sunset but somehow, we timed it just right. I managed to capture one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen. It really makes a difference when you have a whole harbor and a port city to work with.

These photos are 100% unedited. I was looking through them and I'm like, why would I even touch these photos with any sort of editing program when the colours are already so vibrant as is? Love!

Hope you're having a great week!

Bees

Bee Photography Bee Photography

I always smile when I see bees pollinating flowers and plants. It reminds me that they are still here-still buzzing and living and doing what bees do. I hope that they aren't going anywhere.  I don't know if it's an old wives tale or not, I honestly haven't done that much research, but I've read that if bees no longer exist, than humanity ceases to exist as well. Plus, bees are cute! They aren't like hornets and wasps that pest around you when you're trying to eat dinner on the deck with your family. No, no. Bees just mind their own business and are just trying to work hard everyday. If you don't bother them, they won't bother you. I LOVE bees. Anytime I see a bee with my camera in hand, I feel this need to take their photos. Sometimes it's hard because they float from flower to flower but every now and then, you'll find one that stays still for you. :)

Some Thoughts on Nature Photography

Fall Nature Photography Fall Nature Photography Fall Nature Photography Fall Nature Photography Fall Nature Photography Fall Nature Photography Fall Nature Photography Fall Nature Photography

Introducing photography into my life is probably the best thing I could have discovered. Growing up all the way into my early 20's, I longed to find a hobby that I felt passionately towards. I'd see other people introducing activities into their lives (or things that have been with them since childhood) and feeling so strongly towards that specific project that they'd be glowing even when just talking about it - I wanted that too!

My interest in photography proves that passion sometimes has to find you and that if you look too hard, it might pass by without you even knowing it.

I often think that I should try to practice more in portrait photography (which I have and have some portfolio work on that) but when I take a walk by myself on a nature trail and capture images of the scenery that surrounds me, that's when I feel my happiest. I feel so disconnected from technology but connected to the world that surrounds us in such a dramatic and influential way, that I don't know if introducing portrait photography into my life as a "living" would fulfill me as much as nature photography does.

I'm not ruling it out completely as the few portrait (practice) sessions I have done, I'm over the moon by capturing these beautiful moments shared between people that in that specific time I wonder why don't I learn more about portrait?? Maybe in the future, but right now, I'm happy to take my walks and connect with nature on a totally different level. It's calming, it's serene and it's my passion.

Fall Colours

Wow - The colour of Fall never ceases to amaze me! I just love all the beauty with the red, the orange and the yellow surrounding us on every which end.

It reminds me of how lucky I am to live in a place where I'm surrounded by nature even if I do take it for granted from time to time.

Have a happy Thursday!

Cedar Waxwing

You might remember my post about the little Bohemian Waxwing bird that I found out at camp.
Upon my nature walk yesterday, I stumbled upon the his brother, a Cedar Waxwing! There was actually a couple of them. I couldn't get my zoom to go in any closer which makes me think I need a longer lens! I swear I'm not greedy, haha!

Hidden Gems

I was uploading some photos from a little Autumn walk that I took yesterday, when I stumbled upon this little gem that I took in the summer. It's so simple but there's something about the image that made me smile.

I didn't edit this photo but I wanted to share it.

Fall photos to come!
